TOPIC: One-third of Dieters mistakenly ReMove dairy from their meals; experts SaY Dairy Deserves a rightful place On Your plate!
GUESTS: CELEBRITY FITNESS TRAINER KATHY KAEHLER AND REGISTERED DIETITIAN AND AUTHOR CAROLYN O’NEIL
In keeping with New Year’s tradition, people inevitably resolve to eat healthier, exercise frequently and shed those extra holiday pounds. Many resolve to do it on their own; nearly 25 percent of American dieters follow “My Own Diet,” combining elements from a variety of famous weight-loss plans to create their own. Unfortunately, many of these dieters are increasingly confused about what to eat and what not to eat.
Cutting calcium, for instance, can be a mistake. While 95 percent of Americans say they know which foods to avoid when trying to lose weight, often dieters ditch key food groups, like dairy, from their diet plans. In fact, one-third of all dieters eliminate dairy products rather than maintaining or increasing their consumption. Some studies show that calcium from dairy foods can actually help people lose weight.
To help clear up the confusion and set the record straight, The Dannon Company has partnered with celebrity fitness trainer Kathy Kaehler and Carolyn O’Neil, registered dietician and author of The Dish on Eating Healthy and Being Fabulous! Together, “Team Light ‘n Fit” encourages Americans to participate in their new program called, “Commit To Be Light ‘n Fit.” Consumers can go on-line and download a personal “contract” pledging to define, achieve and maintain their personal nutrition and fitness goals on an on-going basis, rather than a one-time weight-loss strategy. As part of the program, Kaehler and O’Neil have developed smart and sound, unique diet and exercise tips that will be updated monthly on-line.
Topics Kathy and Carolyn address:
Ø What is the best strategy for going on a diet or re-starting one?
Ø Can you lose weight effectively fast, or does slow and steady offer better long-term results?
