WHAT: DORM SWEET DORM
Fashionable ways to decorate college dorm rooms on a dime
Home Décor Trend Expert and Online Retail Expert Highlight
Top Buys and Best Bargains for Campus Living This Fall
WHO: Shawnda Schnurbusch: Shawnda is home décor trend expert. She has a dynamite flare for new and innovative merchandise, especially for college kids who are looking to express themselves in dorm décor. Shawnda turns the doldrums of college dorm rooms into the essence of home with a college twist.
Raul Vasquez: Raul is an online retail expert. With his strong background in online retailing and knowledge of the latest tech toy “must have”, he’ll explain how college students use the internet to shop online for fresh, contemporary merchandise and the latest fashions that reflect their individuality.
WHY: August means back-to-school season is here. As college students across the country begin to pack up and head to campus, it’s obvious that the days of typewriters, hot plates, 8 track tapes and rotary phones are a thing of the past. Today’s college students look to keep the comforts of home nearby, turning campus quarters into “dorm sweet dorm.”
Boasting such amenities as chic storage solutions, pod lamps, laptop computers, MP3 players, flat screen TVs and moon chairs, college life is an opportunity for young adults to express their personalities. In fact, today’s dorm room looks a lot more like a first apartment than cramped, communal quarters.
To help parents (and students!) head off to college in-style, home décor trend expert Shawnda Schnurbusch and online retail expert Raul Vazquez show college students and their parents how to outfit their dorm room “on a dime” – whether they’re shopping in-store or online this season. Live from the University of Arkansas, Shawnda and Raul will share all the “must haves” for college students as they design their campus rooms in style.
Shawnda and Raul will offer ideas for three kinds of rooms:
· Gal’s Haven: Complete with pop-up hampers, suede storage boxes, trendy comforters and bedding, colorful rugs, great storage cubes, and more.
· Guy’s Pad: Equipped with the “necessities,” the dorm on a dime guy’s pad will include MP3 players, a laptop computer, retro pod lamps, under bed storage boxes, vinyl laundry bags, etc.
· Co-Ed Lounge: For a space that all college students will love, the lounge features affordable electronics and cool kitchen appliances including an LCD flat panel TV, moon chair, fun accent rugs, mini-refrigerators, and much more.
B-roll will be provided to stations participating in the SMT as a hot-roll. This satellite media tour is sponsored by Walmart.
