With 12 Months to Go Before Torino – An Olympic Gold Medalist  Talks About What it Takes to Go For The Gold

GUEST: Cammi Granato; 1998 and 2002 Olympic Medalist

Cammi was the first-ever U.S. Women's team captain and is the program’s all-time leading scorer. After the 1998 Olympics, Cammi was hired by the LA Kings as a radio color commentator, making her the only woman broadcaster in the NHL and only the second in League history. Known throughout the hockey world, Cammi has been listed as one of the top ten dominant women in world hockey and an inspiration to female athletes.

Most Americans think of the Winter Olympics every four years, but for the athletes chasing gold medal dreams, the journey is long and requires a commitment each and every day. With exactly one year remaining before the Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy, there are still many hard days ahead for athletes hoping to represent the U.S. at the world’s premier sporting event. So what does the next year look like for an Olympic athlete?

Two-time Olympic medalist in Women’s Hockey, Cammi Granato is available to discuss the journey they will take to get to Torino and the challenges they face to become Olympic champions. Cammi will talk about their events, the training involved to get to the TORINO Games (including diet, exercise, and practice regimes) and the importance of support groups, like family, coaches, and corporate sponsors, in helping athletes get to the Olympics.

Women’s Hockey made its Olympic Winter Games debut during the NAGANO Games in 1998 with Team USA capturing the gold medal. Cammi Granato was team captain of that women’s team and carried the flag for the United States in the closing ceremonies. In 2002, Team USA captured a silver medal during the SALT LAKE CITY Games.
